
There are several versions of the SVG format in use today (SVG 1.0, SVG 1.1, and SVG Tiny 1.2 at the time of this writing). SVGZ format is a modified SVG format that uses GZIP compression and thus solves the problem of large SVG file sizes.

SVG is based on the XML markup language, and was developed as an open standard by the World Wide Wide Consortium.


The SVG extension (Scalable Vector Graphics) is used primarily for vector graphics and is an open format.
